Bitcoin In The Classrooms Of El Salvador

avatar

During my High School days, there were language subjects that were introduced, one being a local language of Nigeria, Yoruba, and the other an international language French. I can speak Yoruba but hated taking it as a subject when I have Chemistry, Physics, and Maths to deal with and as a result of my dislike for Yoruba, I failed it woefully in my final exam.
As for French, I liked it and still do, I ended up dropping it at some point but I would take it as a subject again if I have to.

Looking back at those days compared to the present day as Bitcoin is now part of the school curriculum in El Salvador, you get to wonder are the learners going to like it.

The schools in El Salvador have introduced a subject in schools that will pick up the interest of the students considering Bitcoin is housed on smartphones and laptops which is where the younger generation spends most of their time. So the likelihood of learners disliking Bitcoin as a subject like my reaction to Yoruba as a subject is low.

Above is a video link that shows teachers educating their learners on Bitcoin, the keen interest on the faces of the learners is evident in how they have received Bitcoin as an added curriculum.

Nayib Bukele's governance over El Salvadorians has been questionable in the media but legalizing Bitcoin in El Salvador and now Bitcoin in schools is a bold move that potentially could impact the citizens of El Salvador positively. The country needs time for the decision it has taken over cryptocurrency to be positively felt.

With the focus still on El Salvador here is a 36 minutes video taking us through Bitcoin in the country and how a taxi driver shares Bitcoin with people. Things might look slow and gloomy due to the state of the cryptocurrency market but we are far from stagnancy.

Over in Africa Samara Osae is a Ghanaian teen that recently interviewed Jack Dorsey, and Charlene Fadirepo amongst other prominent figures in the crypto space during the recent Bitcoin conference held in Accra Ghana. With Samara Osae at 10 years old and a public figure, sharing Bitcoin with her peers is inevitable.

Not only is cryptocurrency adoption spreading, but it is also getting into the hands of the younger generations, the leaders of tomorrow. If the government thinks they are dealing with the adult population alone, they need a rethink and we know when things of interest get into the hands of kids, trying to stop them isn't the easiest.

A common observation between El Salvador and Africa is these are nations not doing well economically and as such people are exploring ways to opt-out of a monetary system that doesn't fulfill their true needs.

The future of cryptocurrency looks interesting we've got to pay attention to how it is evolving around us.

Teaching about crypto in schools is a brilliant idea ! It taps into so many other things - the way finance works, budgeting, IT skills, etc.

I wonder if Nayib Bukele has thought of incentivising the teaching of crypto. It wouldn't cost much for each exam passed or activity undertaken to be rewarded with a few sats, and to have school tuck shops and other facilities accept them as a way to get the youngsters into the habit of how to use crypto on a day-to-day basis.

Since my involvement in crypto, I can say I have been impacted positively on how to deal with money, I am not perfect yet but the day-to-day financial interaction has placed the responsibility of money in my hands and that isn't what I learned from school so the leaners in El Salvador has a lot to gain.

Interestingly the 36 minutes video showed shops receiving BTC payments and even small BTC miners.
The incentive to take crypto studies is a good idea and I hope that even if not implemented in El Salvador, I hope other nations implement it.

Cheers

I think the youths are a strong proponents of change and the main driving force to it. Most adult's brain have matured and are kind of rigid so it's hard to influence them. The kids will love the Bitcoin curriculum and the curious one's like me would try making it there favorite subject lol.

You are fortunate to be amongst the younger ones that are having an encounter with cryptocurrency, I wish I am in my 20s or even 30s and when I see some youths not even taking advantage of crypto, I wish I can make them see the opportunity I never had at their age.

Very fortunate indeed. I think it's not that difficult to convince them when you sell them the dream on what crypto can do or what the potential of the underlying technology has. That was the click for me, I had a glimpse of what could be achieved with crypto.

I was so on the fact that it gives me freedom the first time I encountered Bitcoin in 2014, the fact that I can transact outside a centralized system was very appealing to me and I was hooked from there on.

I think it's a good idea to teach people when they are young because they are less likely to reject it in the future. As we move digital, it proves to be a good thing but I just wonder whether or not BTC itself should be the main thing being taught there. I think it should be crypto in general.

I also think the education should extend to cryptocurrency in general, maybe touch on Ethereum and other long-standing cryptocurrencies but fundamentally I'd rather people start with Bitcoin.

Trust vs risk, only when evident that a crypto works efficiently, more stable than fiat will people start to take interest.

Too many small tokens floating around will create confusion, this all depends on route approach toward implementation.

The youth are the future, younger generation will become the deciding factor.

The freedom to create cryptocurrency comes it's negative as anyone can just create coins just to make some quick gains.
It is vital people start off with Bitcoin, that way they will be able to identify similar characteristics when having to deal with Altcoins.
