Happy Birthday Bitcoin tattoo.png

gm lions!

Bitcoin turned 14 years old today, and to celebrate, I went ahead and got a Bitcoin pirate tattoo πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ

how 'bout them apples? πŸ˜„

Here are some of the reasons why:

Bitcoin requires no permission from government institutions

This was sort of how the whole Bitcoin Pirate came about. It's like a rebel thing, you know? This is how I explain to normies that you can transfer money practically free without having to report or ask anything to your local government. Since Bitcoin is magic internet money that lives entirely on the internet and is given value by its users, it's outside the jurisdiction of the government, sooooo there's no reason to pay taxes on it, report it or ask permission to use it.

It's very cool that El Salvador made it legal tender because it's giving Bitcoin exposure, but to be honest, the top down approach is completely unnecessary in my opinion. Bitcoin does not need permission from the powers that be; At all.

If I ever get asked about my Bitcoin from the government, I'll have to tell them the very unfortunate thing that happened to my keys while hiking in an active volcano. #truestory πŸ˜₯

Bitcoin is Peer to Peer transfer of value

Why should financial institutions be the gatekeepers of transfer of money? Why should they treat us like children and hold our hand when it comes to sending and receiving money? And why the hell to we need to pay them wire transfer fees or other ridiculous service fees from institutions like Western Union. Why? when we can use the internet to transfer value p2p practically for free?

It's what normies have heard of

Blockchain technology is very early you guys. I know there are a lot of people here who have been in this space since 2011 - 2017 and it seems very familiar to you. But out there, in normie land, people have no idea what is going on in the crypto space. They "know" that NFTs were a thing and nobody uses anymore. They might have heard of Elon Musk talking about Dogecoin, but that's it. Most people don't know that you can use a podcasting 2.0 platform to stream sats to your favorite podcast creator using something called Value-4-value.

But the HAVE heard about Bitcoin.

Barrio Bitcoin

I live in "the Bitcoin hood". It's a part of the city that has a a lot of technology startups in the area. In fact, there are a few companies that are building solutions using blockchain technology, such as IBEX, who were actually a guest on the Leo Finance podcast with @khaleelkazi a while back.

IBEX is helping merchants accept Bitcoin through a self custody POS (point of sale) interface that receives Bitcoin payments, but expresses the charged amount in local currency. This makes it super easy for the merchant and employees to know exactly how much is being charged, and it makes them more likely to want to explore Bitcoin and other solutions that are based on the same concepts.

I'm part of the wild & crazy business owners that accepts Bitcoin payments, so I'm often showing people how to buy pizza or wine using cryptocurrency. I've actually showed them how to pay for pizza with HIVE using @v4vapp last year:

which was fun, but nobody had any idea what the hell I was talking about. Not even the waiters.

So I'm slowly introducing people how I use Bitcoin in my day to day life and some of them get it. If they're interested, I'm happy to show them platforms such as Leo Finance where you can make a blog post that people can upvote and you can earn cryptocurrency with.

So yeah, this is the approach I'm taking and I'm very happy to be Bitcoin pirate as of today. arrrrrrrrrr!

here are a few more pics:

How are you helping the adoption of cryptocurrency in your area?
